How to service and repair the seat armrest on 2008 Ford Ranger?

A proper start to repair and service the seat armrest requires the removal of the 60 percent bench seat. The cup holder and its two mounting screws need removing before pulling it upward and forward for release. Identify the seat wiring harness path that will be needed for reinstall. Then detach the harness from the cushion until you disconnect the seat position sensor connection. Finish with removing both components' pin-type retainers. You need to take the nut off from the safety belt buckle pretensioner before reinstallation while tightening it to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). After detaching the pin-type retainer the operator should remove the rear hook-and-loop strip followed by freeing up the underside hook-and-loop strip and J-clips. The material should be positioned around the child safety seat tether anchor so the trim flap can pass through while moving the rear J-clip below the armrest. To detach the armrest assembly you must first use the foam pad and cushion cover to reach the right-hand (RH) and left-hand (LH) armrest bracket-to-seat frame bolts. Then remove the two RH and two LH bolts before taking out the entire armrest assembly. The LH and RH inner/outer trim covers can be detached by releasing their clips and pulling them off. Remove both apart from the armrest pivot bolts to separate the LH and RH armrest brackets. Install the armrest brackets on the armrest then fasten their position with two armrest pivot bolts at 11 Nm (8 lb-ft). Reinstall the armrest assembly by sliding and clamping the LH and RH inner/outer trim covers into place then fasten with the two LH and two RH armrest bracket-to-seat frame bolts which need to be tightened to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). The child safety seat tether anchor requires material to be wrapped around it while the rear J-clip gets secured beneath the armrest and the trim flap passes through the anchor point. After installing the pin-type retainer connect the rear hook-and-loop strip while fastening the J-clips and the underneath hook-and-loop strip. Secure the safety belt buckle pretensioner with its nut while tightening it to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). Position the wiring harness inside the cushion before securing both the wiring harness and the electrical connector pin-type retainers. Also connect the seat position sensor electrical connector. Complete the installation by fixing the two cup holder mounting screws while attaching the cup holder which should be tightened to 7 Nm (62 lb-in). Then reposition the 60 percent bench seat.
