- Q: How to service and repair the seat armrest on 2009 Ford Ranger?A: Begin the armrest service and repair procedure by taking out the 60 percent bench seat. Perform the following step only if your vehicle is equipped: take out the 2 mounting screws along with the cup holder by pulling up and forward on it. Take note of how the seat wiring harness should route before removing the harness from the cushion while disconnecting the seat position sensor electrical connector and extracting the wiring harness with its electrical connector pin-retainers. The safety belt buckle pretensioner requires you to uninstall its retaining nut before reinstallation where you should apply 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) torque. Remove first the rear hook-and-loop strip combined with pin-type retainer before you disconnect the underside hook-and-loop strip as well as J-clips. Release the rear J-clip which rests below the armrest and move the material off to the side of the child safety seat tether anchor and route the trim flap through the tether anchor opening. To remove the armrest assembly start by lifting foam padding and cushion cover which reveals right-hand (RH) and left-hand (LH) armrest bracket-to-seat frame bolts. After removing the 2 bolts from each bracket you can take out the entire armrest assembly. Cable them aside to access both LH and RH inner/outer trim covers at the center of the vehicle. Detach the LH and RH armrest brackets through removal of their 2 pivot bolts. Attach both the left-hand (LH) and right-hand (RH) armrest brackets onto the armrest before tightening their 2 pivot bolts to 11 Nm (97 lb-in). Place LH and RH inner/outer trim covers onto the sides before inserting the armrest assembly and fasten with 2 LH and 2 RH armrest bracket-to-seat frame bolts which require a torque of 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). Install the seat cushion foam pad followed by the seat cover while directing the ramp material to encompass the child safety seat tether anchor before securing the rear J-clip beneath the armrest where the trim should be routed through the anchor. After connecting the J-clips to the underside hook-and-loop strip users should install the pin-type retainer and fasten the rear hook-and-loop strip. Secure the safety belt buckle pretensioner nut by torquing it to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). Direct the wiring harness through the cushion before securing wiring harness pin-type retainers to the connector then join the seat position sensor electrical connector. Theinstallation process ends with attaching the cup holder by screwing in the two mounting screws and tightening them to 7 Nm (62 lb-in) before putting back the 60 percent bench seat.
