2008 Ford Ranger Mass Air Flow Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Properly Handle the Mass Air Flow Sensor for Maintenance on a 2008 Ford Ranger?
A: Service of the mass air flow (MAF) sensor begins by disconnecting its electrical connector. Following removal of the electrical connector you must detach the MAF sensor by taking out its two securing bolts. Dispose of the worn gasket. Secure the new sensor by turning its bolts to a torque of 11 Nm (8 lb-ft). Any handling of MAF sensing elements which reside inside the airflow bypass should be avoided because damage could cause the system to fail. The MAF sensor module operates with its body as a calibrated unit during installation. Both the removal and installation must proceed in reverse order to ensure the use of a new gasket.
