2008 Ford Ranger Transmission Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Transmission Pan, Gasket, and Filter on 2008 Ford Ranger?
A: Vehicle positioning on a hoist during service and repair of the fluid pan and gasket starts by setting it to NEUTRAL. A vehicle equipped with a transmission servo heat shield requires its uninstallation from the fluid pan rail before servicing. A complete transmission fluid drainage process begins by loosening only two pan screws at the front while extracting all remaining screws from the fluid pan. Remove the rear portion of the fluid pan by turning it downward to drain fluid and afterward remove the two front screws. The transmission fluid gasket serves for multiple usages but require cleaning and evaluation for breaches before you uninstall the fluid pan. After taking out the gasket you must unfasten the transmission fluid filter screw before removing the filter itself. Use a clean cloth to verify that both the fluid pan and magnet show no signs of damage on mating surfaces. Apply clean automatic transmission fluid on the new O-ring seals of the transmission filter before inserting the filter onto the main control valve body while tightening the screw to 10 Nm (89 lb-inch). Install the magnet into the fluid pan before you place the reusable gasket on the pan. Screw installation of the fluid pan requires the use of crosswise tightening patterns to a torque of 10 Nm (89 lb-inch). When heat shields are present you should install the servo heat shield above servos before attaching it to the pan rail while maintaining 10 Nm (89 lb-inch) torque. You need to fill the transmission with clean automatic transmission fluid to the correct level starting from a minimum of 3.7L (4 qt). Start the engine while engaging the parking brake to verify all transmission gears. Inspect the fluid level after moving through all transmission ranges and the gearbox lever.
