• Q: How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Shifter Mechanism on 2008 Lincoln Navigator?

  A: The process starts with stripping down the lowest panels of the instrument panel and the steering column lower shroud requires removal of its attached screws. The service begins with lifting off the steering column upper shroud along with the IP cluster-to-shroud trim. The first step is to remove the IP cluster trim screws from both the right-hand side and left-hand side before gently extracting the trim piece from the IP. The IP cluster trim removal should be preceded by disconnecting both the in-vehicle temperature sensor connector and the dimmer switch electrical connector only when these components apply. Unscrew the upper IP cluster screws and both RH and LH lower IP cluster screws and set the IP cluster to the side. When disconnecting the selector lever cable you must keep away from the force zone between the steering column selector lever arm and steering column bracket to protect the selector lever cable assembly.
