2008 Lincoln Navigator Shift Cable Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Floor Shift Cable and Bracket on 2008 Lincoln Navigator?
A: The repair and servicing process for shift cable and bracket needs to start with vehicles positioned in neutral on a hoist. Service of 6R75 transmission vehicles requires first removing the prndl trim and console tray and cup holder insert and then the screw that attaches the console upper trim. Detach the shift cable from the ball stud of the selector lever arm and the selector lever housing. The procedure for 6HP26-transmission vehicles requires removal of the selector lever trim plate then lifting the floor console upper panel from behind. The customer must first disconnect the shift cable from both the selector lever arm ball stud and selector lever housing after removing the center console LH kick panel. Then remove the shift cable alongside its grommet as well as any present heat shield. Apply no force to the shift cable between its manual control lever and shift cable bracket to prevent damage. The locking tab needs to be raised to detach the cable from the manual control lever ball stud and then remove both the bracket bolts and shift cable clip. The transmission installation requires you to attach the shift cable bracket along with its bolts while tightening them to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). You must check the shift cable locking tabs secure position while fitting the cable end onto the ball stud where you will hear an audible click. After installing the cable end onto the ball stud check that it clicks audibly then verify the lock by pulling back on the cable. The installation of new heat shield components should take place first then proceed with shift cable installation along with grommet installation. When working with the 6R75 transmission users should link the shift cable to the selector lever as well as the housing and arm ball stud while verifying correct installation with a distinctive click. After reinstalling the console upper trim along with its screw the prndl trim and console tray followed by the insertion of cup holder should be put back on. The cable attachment to selector lever housing and arm ball stud should be completed for the 6HP26 transmission followed by insertion of floor console upper panel and selector lever trim plate. Complete the adjustment of the shift cable.
