2008 Lincoln Town Car Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the vacuum brake booster on 2008 Lincoln Town Car?
A: Your service of the vacuum brake booster begins with disconnecting the brake fluid level sensor electrical connector and brake booster check valve. When reinstalling this component fasten the brake master cylinder nuts at 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) torque. The first step requires you to detach the wiring harness bracket and place it away before moving the brake master cylinder forward and putting it out of the way. You should remove both pin-type retainers while separating the instrument close-out panel. Prior to removing the stoplamp switch and speed control deactivator switch it is essential to position the brake pedal at-rest because attempting removal with extended plungers can damage the components. The procedure requires removing the stoplamp switch first but the speed control deactivator switch should also be removed when present. The brake booster push rod retention pin cover and its retaining pin, washer with bushing and switch need removal before the push rod sliding off the pedal pin. Detach the power brake booster by loosening its four brake pedal bracket nuts which should be tightened back to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft) after installation. Installing the stoplamp switch and speed control deactivator switch requires no brake pedal motions because both components need to be fitted with the booster push rod attached to the brake pedal and pedal positioned at-rest to prevent adjustment errors and component damage. After positioning the brake booster input rod correctly during installation follow all the reverse steps from removal to achieve successful reinstallment.
