2009 Ford Ranger Coolant Reservoir Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Coolant Reservoir for the 2.3L Engine on 2009 Ford Ranger?
A: It is essential to wait for engine cooling before opening the cooling system due to its high pressure condition because strong forces of steam and hot liquid can cause serious injuries. The first step to relieve cooling system pressure requires a slow turn of the pressure relief cap counterclockwise for half a turn followed by removing the cap. After clamping the EGR valve heater hose with hose clamp pliers you should use a suitable suction device to drain coolant from the degas bottle. The speed control servo bolt must be removed when present and the servo should be set aside for reinstalling it with a torque of 11 Nm (97 lb-in). Saving the engine coolant requires disconnecting the EGR valve heater hose and directing the drain into a proper receptacle before proceeding to unscrew coolant lines and radiator vents. Reinstall the degas bottle after removing its securing bolt and nut then tighten them to 7 Nm (62 lb-in). Put in reverse the steps for installation while filling the degas bottle with recommended coolant mixture until reaching the correct fill level.
