2009 Ford Ranger Radiator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the radiator on a 2.3L engine on 2009 Ford Ranger?
A: A proper radiator servicing process for a 2.3L engine starts by draining all coolant from the system. The process of detaching transmission cooling tubes from the radiator should be done with a back up wrench for automatic transmission vehicles while keeping the transmission oil cooler fittings untouched. Move forward by disconnecting first the degas bottle hose and upper radiator hose from the radiator before taking out the cooling fan and shroud. First disconnect the lower radiator hose before removing the radiator bolts allowing you to take out the three pushpins and seal from the top of the radiator. To install the radiator begin by applying both the seal and the three pushpins on the top of the unit before placing it in position in the engine compartment while tightening bolts to 7 Nm (62 lb-in). Proceed by connecting the lower radiator hose while reinstalling the cooling fan and shroud alongside attaching the upper radiator hose. Position the overflow tube into the radiator channel and join it to the system. Vehicles with automatic transmission need to reattach transmission cooling tubes to the radiator by tightening them to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft). Complete the cooling system fluid filling operation by executing a few minutes of engine start up to check for leaks in hoses and all connections. During operation inspect and fill transmission fluid while carefully positioning yourself away from the cooling fan blade to prevent accidental injuries.
