The first task in servicing the coolant bypass hose on 2.3L vehicles involves draining the cooling system. Disconnect the coolant bypass hose using safety precautions by first unclipping it from its routing position and then detaching it from the coolant bypass tube. If the vehicle has manual transmission then remove the shifter first. Start by disconnecting the rear driveshaft together with the exhaust downpipe. Insert a proper transmission jack to support the transmission before you take out the six crossmember-to-frame bolts located on each side and restore their torque to 99 Nm (73 lb-ft).
