How to service the tailgate latch on 2009 Ford Ranger?

Service of the tailgate latch starts with removing 8 screws from the tailgate access cover after setting these screws to 5 Nm (44 lb-in) torque before reinstallation. The service for the tailgate latch starts by opening the actuating rod retainer and removing the actuating rods from the remote control. Release the tailgate support cables from the pickup bed strikers and take out the two tailgate latch bolts that need to be tightened to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) for reinstallation. First disconnect and remove the tailgate latch by separating its position and actuating rod then taking out the entire latch. Before installation the tailgate latch release link must be stretched to the center of the tailgate while the retainer covers the release link thread. The entire installation process will be finished by performing reverse installation steps.
