How to Service and Repair Automatic Transmission Shift Levers on 2009 Lincoln MKZ?

The automatic transmission shifter can be removed by disconnecting the cable and electrical connector to the shift lever and removing the center console in order to repair the shifter. Four nuts are used to remove the shift lever. Install a shift lever back, reconnect cable and make sure it is correctly locked. Lastly, fit the center console back and re-adjust the shift lever cable.
