A proper clamp load should be avoided by resisting complete shock absorber bolt tightness until the suspension reaches its bushing fastener tightening position to prevent damage to the bushings. The service requires the shock absorber lower bolt and flagnut to be removed and replaced with new hardware, followed by torque application to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft) for All-Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicles and 115 Nm (85 lb-ft) for Front Wheel Drive (FWD) vehicles. When working on FWD vehicles it is important to remove the upper arm's outboard bolt before installing a new bolt which should be tightened to 110 Nm (81 lb-ft) while the suspension rests at its bushing fastener tightening position. AWD owners should uninstall the upper arm outboard bolt and nut before installing new hardware and securing both components to 110 Nm (81 lb-ft) with the suspension at the bushing fastener tightening point. After carefully lowering the trailing arm you can take out the jack. Use the necessary adjustments on the shock absorber position to eliminate the upper arm. Tighten the upper arm inboard bolt only after raising the arm to its bushing fastener tightening position. The technician should eliminate and discard the upper arm inboard bolt together with the arm before installing a fresh bolt which must reach 100 Nm (74 lb-ft) then turn 90 degrees. A suitable jack must elevate the suspension to achieve a 395 mm (15.55 in) length between the center of the hub and the fender lip for accurate fastener tightening.Incorrect clamp forces and bushing damage will be prevented at this height. Cover all work with a dust cover and reinstall the parts following the removal steps and check the rear camber if needed.
