The first step in service and repair work on the auxiliary evaporator outlet and inlet lines requires positioning the vehicle on a hoist in neutral mode and recovering all refrigerant contents. Both Expedition and Navigator vehicles equip their inlet and outlet lines with factory one-piece assemblies yet the replacement parts arrive as individual installation kits. Connect the central sections of the vehicle lines loosely and attach the first three auxiliary line brackets along with nuts before tightening them to 5 Nm (44 lb-in). The middle auxiliary evaporator line fittings need to be tightened followed by verification of proper installation and possible adjustments if needed. The order of replacement includes RH catalytic converter heat shield followed by exhaust hanger and muffler heat shield and RH CMS before reinstalling the muffler. Senior technicians must reinstall all components including front auxiliary line bracket and spare tire carrier splash shield with RH front fender splash shield followed by installation of RH front wheel and RH rear wheel and tire assembly that are specific to Expedition EL as well as Navigator L models.
