2009 Lincoln Town Car Automatic Transmission Shifter Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the automatic transmission shifter on 2009 Lincoln Town Car?
A: One needs to begin automatic transmission shifter servicing by disconnecting the battery ground cable and then waiting for at least one minute to drain the back up power. Start by removing the lower steering column opening finish panel yet first detach the screw from the park brake release handle thus positioning it aside to then remove the same screw off the panel while using hand pressure to detach the retaining clips. Place the wrench on each of the five screws which secure the lower steering column opening finish panel reinforcement. After removing those screws unfasten all four screws holding the lower steering column shroud to remove the components. The operation continues by removing the upper steering column shroud followed by disconnecting the Transmission Control Switch (TCS) harness connector. First separate TCS harness from locators while you also separate selector lever cover from the steering column. The old selector lever pin must be discarded as it prevents selector lever failure so take out the selector lever pin plus selector lever. The installation process for the selector lever should follow the reverse order of removal steps.
