How to Service and Repair the A/C Clutch on Ford Focus?

The first step to maintain the compressor clutch starts with belt removal followed by proper support of the A/C compressor to protect refrigerant lines while removing retaining bolts. Take out the A/C compressor through connector removal before taking off its pulley and drive plate together with its spacer shims. A proper two-leg puller will allow the clutch field coil extraction process while the A/C compressor clutch electrical connector position requires marking relative to the compressor housing. The installation requires proper placement of the clutch field coil onto the A/C compressor seat without skewing it by using an M6 x 30 mm bolt together with a washer at the same time as the A/C compressor drive plate. The procedure starts by discarding the bolt and washer together with the drive plate before installing the A/C compressor pulley with its replacement snap ring. The installation process includes adding the drive plate followed by testing the air gap on the clutch and reattaching the compressor electrical connector before finally putting back the drive belt.
