The Timing Cover is an original Ford Crown Victoria automobile part that helps protect the vehicle's timing mechanism, the latter may include a timing belt, timing chain, or cam belt. Made from materials that are rigid in nature including aluminum, plastic or steel, the Timing Cover ensures that unwanted elements do not impact on the sensitive parts present. Timing gaskets are today used in many Ford Crown Victoria Timing Covers in order to increase the safety and stability of the timing belt. Timing Covers are made strong and should last for long, but they can leave at any time and therefore substitution should be done as soon as possible to avoid risking the lives of the users. In the course of the use of Ford Crown Victoria, there have been several types of Timing Covers used which were specifically developed for guarding the timing chain while they might be made from different material or may have different features.

Ford Crown Victoria Timing Cover Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Engine Front Timing Cover on Ford Crown Victoria?
    A:
The repair and servicing of the engine front cover should start with the vehicle in neutral gear positioned on a hoist. Prior to servicing always disable fire suppression systems then exhaust fuel system pressure and disconnect the Battery Cable from the ground. The service requires removal of both valve covers together with the coolant pump and crankshaft front seal. The Power Steering Pump can be placed to the side after you take out the four bolts that keep it in place. Drain the engine oil by using the Oil Pan drain plug followed by removal of the four front bolts connecting the engine front cover to the oil pan. To remove the protective shield from a limousine it is necessary to take out the extra mounting bolts. First remove the bolt which anchors the idler pulley belt before continuing to separate the sequence of specified bolts and stud bolts. Detach the engine front cover gently from its dowel position while avoiding metal scrapers or abrasive tools on the sealing surface because plastic scrapers and metal surface cleaner will do. Installation of the engine front cover requires cleaning its sealing area if coverage exceeds four minutes before allowing the area to dry. Install the engine front cover on the dowel before loosely attaching its bolts. Apply sealant at the locations where the oil pan meets the cylinder block and where the cylinder head touches the block. The front cover fasteners must be tightened to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) and then the idler pulley bolt requires the same torque value in the specified order. The shield installation process for limousines requires bolt tightening at 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). The four front oil pan bolts should be loosely installed before tightening at 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) followed by another 60 degrees of final torque. Install the oil pan drain plug by tightening it to 13 Nm (10 ft. lbs.) before positioning the power steering pump for bolt tightening to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.). Replace the crankshaft front oil seal and the coolant pump together with the valve covers. Reconnection of the battery ground cable should be followed by engine oil filling with clean fluid. Fire suppression system owners should also perform the repower procedure.
