Ford E-150 Tie Rod End Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the inner tie rod end on Ford E-150?
A: The first step of servicing the inner tie rod end involves setting the vehicle on a hoist while keeping the wheels pointed straight ahead position. The vehicle must be in NEUTRAL gear. As the cotter pin fails to match the nut's slot you should tighten the torque until the adjacent slot meets the stud hole while maintaining the nut tight for alignment purposes. The service requires removal of both the nut and pin from the inner tie rod end before installing the new nut at 85 Nm (63 lb-ft) of torque. A Steering Arm Remover tool serves to split the inner tie-rod end from the sector shaft arm drag link. Take note of the number of turns it takes to remove the inner tie-rod end from the adjusting sleeve because it will help installation. First loosen the adjusting sleeve clamp nut before removing the inner tie-rod end and tighten the new one with 55 Nm (41 lb-ft). When tightening the adjusting sleeve bolts and clamps they need to rest at a 45-degree vertical angle with bolts pointing forward while clamps show their opening downward. Installation requires a reversal of the removal steps while adding a new cotter pin and conducting necessary front toe examinations.
