A correct procedure for steering wheel maintenance begins by setting the wheel to a straight ahead position and switching off the ignition. Separate the driver air bag module along with steering wheel switches electrical connector if present and keep them aside. Eliminate and dispose of the steering wheel bolt before installing a new one by following a torque specification of 38 Nm (28 lb-ft). A Differential Bearing Remover should be used during steering wheel removal because it protects the steering column bearings from damage. You should take out the steering wheel while keeping the Clock Spring wires securely positioned inside it. The Clock Spring center rotor should be taped to the outer housing before removal to stop it from rotating. The installation of the steering wheel should proceed in the opposite steps of removal.
