The Power Steering Pump in Ford Edge is a highly important product that transforms the engine energy into hydraulic pressures in order to assist the driver into steering. Here, turning this power to the steering system that makes it easier to maneuver large vehicles, the pump decreases the amount of force required to rotate the wheels. Ford Edge Power Steering Pumps can be driven in two ways namely by the crankshaft; using a V-belt or serpentine belt this unit comes with a power steering fluid reservoir which can be incorporated in the pump or be separate. The pump receives fluid from the control valve and a hydraulic cylinder to offer workings in turning direction, thus granting non-resistant stearing at various speeds. This Gear type may come in as hydraulic, electric or even electronic but the Power Steering Pump in Ford Edge automobiles is very significant in improving both the drivers' control and comfort.

Ford Edge Power Steering Pump Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on Ford Edge?
    A:
Begin power steering pump repair by hoisting the vehicle to a position with neutral and positioning it on an appropriate rack. A suitable suction device should be used to draw power steering fluid out from the reservoir before you start removing the RH inner fender splash shield. The stretchy belt remover should be utilized to place the power steering pump pulley belt on the pulley at a 152 mm (5.984 in) distance during a clockwise turn of the crankshaft. Fold the stretchy belt remover underneath the power steering pump belt and quickly extract it to eliminate the belt. Vehicle models equipped with all-wheel drive (AWD) require removal of four bolts that leads to setting the driveshaft aside. A jack should be used to support the subframe rear before removing the subframe support brackets, 2 middle subframe nuts and 2 nuts and 4 bolts that hold the brackets and subframe together which will lower the entire rear section of the subframe. Discharge the power steering pump supply hose as well as the power steering pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector before you disconnect the pressure line from the power steering pump and discard both seals. The power steering pump requires removal when its 3 securing bolts are unstowed. Position the new power steering pump and fasten it with three bolts which should be tightened to 24 Nm (18 lb-ft). When you disconnect the pressure line you should install new seals before placing the pressure line correctly and installing the banjo bolt with 48 Nm (35 lb-ft) torque. Reconnect the PSP switch electrical connector together with the power steering pump supply hose while securing its clamp. Position the subframe in the air with a jack and fasten the middle subframe nuts to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft) torque setting before finishing the installation by tightening all subframe support bracket nuts to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft) torque and subframe support bracket bolts to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft). Place driveshaft in position before installing its 4 bolts which must be tightened to 70 Nm (52 lb-ft). Flawless power steering belt installation depends on correct placement on the crankshaft and power steering pulley before using the power steering belt installation tool to guide the belt onto the pump pulley and achieving crankshaft clockwise rotation. Place back the RH inner fender splash shield and follow up by filling the power steering system.
