Ford Expedition Brake Pads Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the front brake pads on Ford Expedition?
A: The front brake pad servicing procedure depends on the exclusive use of manufacturer-approved clean fluid that must be totally free of previously drained fluid to minimize contamination issues. One must always install new brake brakes at both ends of an axle for correct brake performance. When working on brake fluid handling always protect painted and plastic surfaces from potential spillages. Start servicing the master cylinder by pulling out enough brake fluid to reach a capacity level of half before removing the wheel and tire assembly. Gentle hand pressure should be applied for removing the anchor housing spring to prevent any damage from occurring. Open the lower side of the anchor housing spring by pulling on its bottom section before rotating the component to remove it from the Brake Caliper. The outer brake pad retaining springs must be detached from the brake caliper anchor plate while maintaining a safe position for the caliper that hangs from the brake hose. Detach the guide pin bushing caps together with the guide pin bolts and stabilize the caliper with mechanic's wire. The technician must first inspect existing pads for damage before removing both braking components to replace them with new pads as required. A C-clamp and worn brake pad should be used to carefully compress caliper pistons for new pad installation which safeguards both piston and boot components. Optimize the Brake Disc condition by replacing it when required. Clean the pad contact zones on the caliper while applying designated lubrication into guide pin bushings before fitting the unit inside bore openings. Before installing the outer brake pad user must first remove its protective paper until mounting it to the caliper and rotating the springs 90 degrees. The installation of the brake caliper assembly requires proper seating of the inner brake pad retaining springs onto the brake caliper anchor plate before assembly. Fasten the two brake caliper guide pin bolts with bushing caps while tightening them to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft). Where the outer brake pad retaining springs encounter the machined slot on the anchor plate users must rotate them before installing the anchor housing spring by tab insertion and twisting into the brake caliper cavity. Fit both anchor housing spring sections onto the anchor plate before securing them with proper seating through downward and inward movement. Reposition the wheel and tire after properly latching the brake pad anti-rattle spring. Finish by testing the brake multiple times to check the proper functioning.
