There are different kinds of Crankshaft Seal that has been fitting in the Ford Expedition which came with the same primary role throughout these varieties. Ford Expedition Crankshaft Seal Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Crankshaft Seal with a Retainer Plate on Ford Expedition?
    A:
The crankshaft main bearing service requires removal of transmission components along with the pan followed by Oil Pan removal. The second step involves removal of the rear engine cover. The Slid Hammer should work with Crankshaft Rear Oil Slinger Remover to remove the oil slinger and later the Slide Hammer with Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Remover must handle the crankshaft rear seal repair. Six bolts must be removed from the crankshaft rear seal retainer plate. For sealing installation it is essential to replace traditional metal scrapers with a plastic tool to remove aging sealant from the surfaces. Crankshaft and silicone gasket remover along with metal surface prep treatment needs to be applied to sealing surfaces according to product guidelines. When securing the rear crankshaft seal retaining plate takes longer than four minutes, the sealant needs to be removed while re-cleaning the sealing area which needs to dry completely before restorage. A 4.06 mm length (0.16 in) silicone bead sealant should be applied to the retainer plate sealing surface before securing the retainer plate in position then tightening the six bolts to 10 Nm torque (89 lb-in). New crankshaft rear seals should be lubricated with clean engine oil before Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installers are used for installation. The Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installers enable the installation of a new crankshaft rear oil slinger after it gets lubricated with engine oil. Start by installing the rear engine cover and then the flexplate while tightening its eight bolts to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft). The final step involves reattachment of the oil pan as well as the transmission.
