How to service and repair the thermostat housing on Ford Expedition?

The first step for servicing engine cooling system is draining it before doing repairs on the thermostat housing. Service of the thermostat housing requires the upper radiator hose to be detached from its connection to the housing. Disassemble the housing by removing its two bolts and thermostat housing along with the thermostat before getting rid of the O-ring seal. Normal operating torque for the bolts is 10 Nm (89 lb-in) when following the installation process that reverses the removal sequence. Surface mating inspection should proceed with the application of cleaning solutions using metal surface prep as per product package instructions. The completion requires the installation of a fresh O-ring seal.
