In order to service the crankshaft, each crankshaft main bearing journal diameter is measured in two directions and a taper and out-of-round condition is assessed. Check journal clearance with no crankshaft rotation by use of Plastigage. Check end play using a Dial Indicator Gauge and measure runout rotating crankshaft and recorded readings.

Install the Holding Fixture to have the Dial Indicator Gauge installed. Install the crankshaft at the back of the cylinder block, set the gauge to zero at the back of the block and move it to the front and measure the end play, examine the engine system level to specification.
