Break the differential pinion shaft by removing its lock bolt then extracting the shaft assembly. When you remove the U-washer from the axle shaft grooves you should avoid harming the rubber O-ring by pushing the shaft inward. Remove the axle shaft with delicate movements in order to protect the oil seal from damage. Apply grease to the open edge of the axle shaft oil seal before fitting the shaft and verify that the seal stays intact. Follow these steps to install the U-washer when you put it on the button end of the axle shaft while extending the shaft outward.
