    Q: How to service and repair the torsion bar on Ford Ranger?
    A:
    The vehicle should be placed on a hoist in neutral position before starting any work on the torsion bar. Replace the torsion bar cover plate bolts and remove the cover plate before resettling the bolts to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) when reattaching it. Take a measurement of the adjustment bolt length before removing torsion bar tension because this measurement will be needed to set up the new bolt. Apply the torsion bar remover/installer along with the adapter to relieve tension before tightening until the adjuster separates from the adjustment bolt. The adjustment bolt with dry adhesive requires replacement after removal because it avoids loosening and misalignment. First remove both the old adjustment bolt along with the support nut before opening the tension using the remover/installer. To remove the torsion bar start by marking both components before uninstalling the insulator plate then pulling the bar out from the lower arm. Install the torsion bar by first inserting it into the lower arm then match the marks between the bar and adjuster before installing both pieces and the insulator plate. Instillation of the adjustment bolt becomes necessary when it required removal or backoff during maintenance. The torsion bar preloading process demands the insertion of the remover/installer followed by torque adjustments to enable new bolt and nut installation. Finally, rotate the adjustment bolt to match the original bolt length. After installation of the cover plate with bolts to a torque of 55 Nm (41 lb-ft), conduct ride height adjustments and check the necessary front end alignment.
