How to Service and Repair the Shift Cable and Bracket for the Column Shift on Ford Taurus?

Service of the column shift cable and bracket starts with removing the LH lower instrument panel trim. A small screwdriver should be used to loosen the shift cable from the shift selector lever pivot ball by reaching up from the left of the column. Grasp the locking tab and simultaneously use the shift actuator cable fitting to pull the cable out from its retaining bracket. From inside the engine area, remove the cruise control actuator while pulling the cable grommet loose from the dashboard panel. After removing the cable nut from the control lever, the cable can be detached from the transmission bracket by pulling the cable upward and lifting the locking tab while discarding the locking clip. Completely extract the shift cable by pulling it through the opening installed in the dash panel. You need to reverse the removal procedure while using a new locking clip and make proper adjustments to the shift cable.
