  A: A service or repair of the rear door latch starts by taking out the rear door interior trim panel together with the access hole watershield. First connect the electrical units for the Window Regulator and window switch before you can access and unfasten the glass clamp bolt by positioning the rear door window glass. Start by disconnecting the window regulator along with the window switch electrical connectors followed by loosening the window glass clamp bolt then taping the window at its full up position. After the regulator reaches its stopping point at the bottom of the track you should detach both the interior door handle bolt and the rear door latch assembly electrical connector. First secure the push button rod in a downward position while removing it from the rear door latch assembly then proceed with taking out the three rear door latch assembly-to-rear door module bolts. Prevent interior door handle scratching during this operation. Start by removing the eight bolts which lead to placing the rear door module to the side. Taurus and Sable owners must start by removing tape and lowering the window glass before they remove the scrivet and the rear door glass run top bolt along with the rear door glass run seal. The glass should be placed aside carefully and the rear door glass top run should be removed. Rise the window glass so it reaches the top position then secure it with tape. After positioning the rear door module avoid scratching the interior door handle by installing the eight bolts to a torque of 8 Nm (71 lb-in). The assembly process starts with tightening three bolts between the rear door latch assembly and rear door module to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Afterward, fit the push button rod to the rear door latch assembly while establishing rear door latch assembly electrical connection. Open the interior door handle before loosely mounting its bolt while removing tape from the window glass and lowering it down to clamp position forward with a bolt torque at 8 Nm (71 lb-in). Place the access hole watershield and rear door trim panel on the vehicle then align the inside door handle pins to the panel before tightening the interior door handle bolt to 7 Nm (62 lb-in).
