Ford Taurus X Tie Rod Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the inner tie rod on Ford Taurus X?
    A:
The beginning of inner tie rod maintenance requires positioning the vehicle in neutral mode on a hoist. Remove the outer tie-rod end from the wheel knuckle while recording its screw position to use for reinstallation. Begin by easing the tie-rod jam nut and then removing the outer tie-rod end nut before disconnecting the end from the knuckle. Onward you should remove the tie-rod jam nut followed by the outer bellows boot clamp then dispose of the inner bellows boot clamp before taking off the tie-rod bellows boot. Use a set of wrenches with an appropriate size to work on the rack gear flat surface which prevents steering gear rotations but allows users to remove the inner tie rod with a suitable crowfoot-style tool from Snap On(R) as Model YA3000B. To install the inner tie rod center the steering gear and apply the same tool as during removal before tightening it to 105 Nm (77 lb-ft). Put the specified grease inside the bellows grooves on the inner tie rod while correctly positioning the bellows without twisting and inserting the vent tube if equipped. To install the bellows boot clamps we should use a constant velocity joint boot clamp installer on both the inner and outer clamps. Thread the jam nut onto the inner tie rod and install its accompanying outer tie rod by setting the correct number of turns similarly to removal. When installing the outer tie-rod end nut through the hex-holding feature enable the stud from rotating before tightening it to 115 Nm (85 lb-ft) and finalizing the tie-rod jam nut with 63 Nm (46 lb-ft). Perform needed adjustments for front toe measurement.
