Ford Thunderbird Seat Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How should one service and repair the power seat switch while ensuring safety with an air bag supplemental restraint system (SRS) on Ford Thunderbird?
A: Employees servicing or repairing power seat switches need to wear safety glasses for vehicles equipped with SRS to lower their accident-related injuries during Air Bag deployments. The connectors attached to the air bag module must not be probed because this will initiate deployment and possibly cause injury. Memory saver devices should not be used because they add no protection against personal injuries. The depowering and disabling of SRS components must take place whenever servicing seats which contain SRS parts. A warning light on the air bag will turn on when both the RCM fuse comes out and the ignition switch is in ON position but this normal state does not show an SRS system issue. Before handing back the vehicle to the customer check that the SRS functions properly and shows no faults. The fix requires a new part installation then the original part reinstallation followed by another diagnostic procedure in case the issue remains. Remove the front seat first and follow it by depowering the SRS. Disassemble the seat control switch knob and detach the electrical connector from it. Disconnect the side shield by removing its screw as well as its pin-type retainer. Then detach and take off the side shield. Remove the seat control switch through the removal of two securing screws. Continuation of installation requires performing the removal steps in reverse order followed by front seat reinstallation then enabling power to the SRS.
