The process of servicing passenger air bag module requires eye protection and handling the live air bag module with point the deployment door and trim cover in the opposite direction from the body to avoid serious injury from accidental deployment. Handling all air bag module electrical connectors requires absolute caution since probing them can result in unintentional deployment which puts occupants at serious risk of injury or death. The air bag module should receive a replacement module instead of reprocessing due to damaged or discolored trim covers or deployment doors. A warning indicator occurs because of the restraints control module (RCM) fuse removal with the ignition switch turned ON but this situation does not point to any malfunction. Releasing the vehicle must wait until the Supplemental Restraint System shows it functions properly. First disable the SRS before reaching inside the glove compartment to detach the door dampener cable which will lower the door. The installation of the passenger air bag module to the instrument panel requires two bolts at 8 Nm (71 lb-in) torque before reattaching the trim panels and end panel and reconnecting the door dampener cable while closing the glove compartment and activating the SRS.
