Service of the A/C expansion valve on the Expedition EL and Navigator L starts by putting the vehicle in neutral gear on a hoist. After refrigerant recovery, you should remove the auxiliary evaporator rear fitting nut and discard the gasket seals before tightening new ones to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). After removing both bolts that fasten the A/C expansion valve, take the valve out while discarding its O-ring seals and tightening the new ones to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) when putting it back. Follow the uninstallation steps backward to reinstall the system after replacing the needed O-ring and gasket seals and by adding an appropriate amount of clean PAG oil to the refrigerant system. The refrigerant system requires evacuation, then leak testing and charging as the last step.
