Service and repair operations of the 4R70E/4R75E fluid filter need a vehicle in NEUTRAL position on a hoist. Open the drain by loosening the fluid pan bolts while letting the fluid empty before completely removing the bolts. After unbolted transmission fluid pan with attached gasket both should be pulled down uniformly to separate transmission fluid filter and seal. Thoroughly clean the fluid pan together with its gasket as well as magnet for inspection. It is necessary to use a small screwdriver for removing any remaining seal at the main control bore but handle the bore with caution to avoid damage. The transmission filter can be reinstalled with a new seal if contamination is not severe but a fresh replacement should be used whenever the transmission undergoes repair because of contamination. Pan magnets should be installed into the fluid pan while gaskets can retain use when not damaged. Place the transmission fluid pan together with its gasket then fasten the bolts with torque set to 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.). A proper filling of a dry transmission and converter begins by pouring at least 4.7 liters (5 quarts) of clean automatic transmission fluid and ends with the transmission fluid level set correctly.
