Transmission Pan

Vehicle positioning on a hoist with NEUTRAL setting is essential for Automatic Transmission Fluid pan gasket filter repair work on the TorqShift. The transmission draining starts with removing the drain plug to empty the fluid. Next workers must detach the fluid pan along with its gasket before uninstalling the fluid filter. The correct method for removing transmission fluid filter seals involves caution to prevent damage to the seal bore that may cause transmission failure. Check if a seal exists inside the bore and proceed with its removal. Installation of the new fluid filter and seal assembly must proceed only after removing the previous filter seal. Follow a crisscross pattern when installing the fluid pan together with the gasket and while tightening the pan bolts. Replace the transmission fluid drain plug while filling the transmission with 7.0 liters (7.5 quarts) of clean automatic transmission fluid through the filler tube. Start the engine then shift the transmission range selector lever to test the gear connections. The fluid needs adjustment after inserting 0.24 liters (0.5 pints) incrementally while the temperature ranges between 66 - 77°C (150 - 170°F). Normal operating temperature is measured with the vehicle in NEUTRAL gear position. Using incorrect fluid in the transmission will lead to operational problems and transmission failure.

Inspect the transmission fluid bore for the seal; if present, carefully remove it.

The fluid should be within the cross-hatched area of the fluid level indicator.

Position the pan magnet into the fluid pan, clean and inspect the gasket for damage, then install the pan and gasket, followed by the bolts.

Disconnect the battery ground cable, raise and support the vehicle, place a drain pan under the transmission fluid pan, and drain the transmission fluid by loosening the pan bolts.
