How to Service rear brake shoes and ensuring proper installation on Mercury Mariner?

The installation of new rear brake shoes and linings requires brake drum resurfacing for glazing removal and both-sided friction surface smoothing and out-of-round/bell condition fixing. You start with the brake drum removal then proceed to take off the parking brake lever clip along with both brake shoe retaining clips and the two pins. The procedure requires removal of upper return spring followed by the self-adjuster assembly then lower return spring before extracting parking brake actuator lever and rear brake shoes. Silicone grease needs application to the brake shoe contact points on the backing plate before removing the self-adjuster spring and lever and pivot pin. The final stage of installation involves performing the reverse steps of removal followed by proper adjustment of the rear brake shoes.
