Mercury Mariner Engine Oil Cooler Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service the Engine Oil Cooler on Mercury Mariner?
    A:
Manufacturing operations must start with the vehicle placed on a hoist in neutral gear position. The splash shield on the right-hand side requires removal of five bolts before you should tighten them to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.) when reinstalling. Then you should drain engine oil through the proper removal of the drain plug before tightening it to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) during reinstallation. Install the new Oil Filter on the adapter by achieving ¾ of a turn while the gasket naturally touches the adapter surface. The first step involves draining coolant from the engine while disconnecting coolant hoses from the Engine Oil Cooler before disconnecting an oil pressure sender electrical connector. Remove the gasket along with the four bolts that fasten the oil filter adapter and tighten these bolts at 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) while reinstalling. Findings of metal or aluminum materials in the oil cooler will help identify probable mechanical problems. Use a vise to secure the oil filter adapter while you unscrew the oil cooler bolt to remove the cooler for checking its condition. Installation of the oil cooler must be completed with 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) torque. There have to be a methodical reassembly followed by system cooling procedures then the engine needs clean engine oil installation.
