How to service the thermostat housing on a 2.3L engine on Mercury Mariner?

Service of a 2.3L thermostat housing requires first placing the vehicle into NEUTRAL and hoisting it before proceeding. First drain the cooling system fluid before you remove the accessory drive belt. The first step includes disconnecting both heater hose and lower radiator hose at the thermostat housing. The three bolts holding the thermostat housing should be removed. During new thermostat housing installation you must tighten the bolts to 10 Nm which equals 89 inch lbs. The gasket requires cleaning and inspection before deciding to use a new replacement unit. Bleeding and filling the cooling system will finalize the maintenance process.
