    Q: How to service the oil cooler on Mercury Mariner?
    A: The first step to service the oil cooler requires placing the vehicle on a hoist with NEUTRAL engaged position. The right-hand splash shield requires five bolts to remove before replacement during which you must tighten each bolt to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.). The drain of engine oil requires removing the oil drain plug before retightening this component to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). After removing the Oil Filter you must tighten the new filter three quarters of a turn after the filter gasket meets the oil filter adapter. The engine cooling system needs drainage and workers must disconnect both coolant hoses that connect to the oil cooler before removing the oil pressure sender electrical connector. The gasket requires disposal before removing the 4 oil filter adapter bolts that need tightening to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) when readjusting. Metals and aluminum present inside the oil cooler during inspection would reveal mechanical problems in the system. The operator should clamp the oil filter adapter across a vise before unfastening the oil cooler bolt and removing the oil cooler for inspection. The technician should secure the oil cooler by tightening it to 34 Nm (25 ft. lbs.) during reinstall and follow the initial removal steps in reverse order. You must complete the engine cooling system filling process while bleeding it before you introduce fresh clean engine oil into the system.
