Service operations on the starter motor need to begin while the vehicle stays in neutral position on a hoist. Before reattaching the starter solenoid wire nut the mechanic should ensure a tightening torque of 5 Nm (44 lb-in). During service and repair of the starter motor you should first disconnect the starter solenoid
Battery Cable nut and then remove both starter motor solenoid terminal cover and cables while tightening them to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Separate the wiring harness retainer before setting the wiring harness to the side. The ground strap nut requires removal but operators should keep the strap put aside while reinstallation requires a torque of 20 Nm (15 lb-ft). First detach the two starter motor stud bolts but tighten the upper and lower bolts by hand before torquing the upper bolt to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft) followed by the lower bolt to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft). Finish the installation job by performing the reverse steps from removal.
