    Q: How to service the exterior rear door handle on Mercury Montego?
    A: The first step for servicing the exterior rear door handle requires removing the rear door window glass. The first step involves the removal of both the bolt and interior handle but these components must receive a 7 Nm (62 lb-in) fastening torque when replaced. The technician should set the watershield to the side and then disconnect the electrical connector that controls the rear door latch assembly. The push button rod needs rotating downward to break its connection with the rear door latch assembly before you remove its three mounting screws. You must detach the ten bolts which you will store before setting the carrier plate aside to repurchase the bolts with 8 Nm (71 lb-in) tightness. The technician should disconnect the exterior door handle actuating rod from the rear door latch then remove the three bolts from the rear door latch before reinstallation requires a torque of 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). After removing the rear door latch assembly the technician must take out the exterior door handle release bolt and cap while securing the bolt measure to 7 Nm (62 lb-in). During reinstallation secure the exterior door handle bracket along with its nut by tightness of 7 Nm (62 lb-in). Finish up the procedure by following all reverse installation steps.
