Removing the door trim panel is the first step to access the rear interior door handle. Next, loosen the interior door handle bolt, screw it to 7 Nm (62 lb-in) when you install it again. Unscrew the actuating cable to interior door handle, and lastly, retrace the steps to remove them, and complete the installation.

How to service the exterior rear door handle on Mercury Montego?

To access the exterior rear door handle, you have to remove a rear door window glass and then internal door handle and watershield. Take off the latch assembly, push button rod, and latch assembly screws and bolts. Lastly, pull out the actuating rod, pull out the handle and put the actuating rod and handle back in place.
