Q: How to service the outer tie rod end on Mercury Mariner?
A: Service of the outer tie rod end begins with removing the wheel and tire accessory. The installation of the tie-rod end jam nut requires a torque of 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) after loosing it during service. Before discarding the used outer tie-rod end nut replace it with a new one which needs tightening to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft). The front wheel knuckle needs a Ball Joint Separator to detach the outer tie-rod end before removing the outer tie-rod end. The service finishes when you undo the installation steps but double-check the front toe measurement for possible readjustment.
