How to service and repair the voltage regulator on Mercury Mountaineer?

In order to service the voltage regulator, unscrew the voltage regulator/brush holder assembly and unscrew the generator. Press the brushes and put in a piece of wire that will keep it in place. Install the screws to fix the assembly, take the wire out and put the generator back in place.
