How to Address Issues with the Wheel Cylinder on a Mercury Cougar?

Wash up any spilled brake fluid on the paintwork in order to service the wheel cylinder. Disassemble the wheel cylinder, brake tube union and take off the brake shoes. Install the new cylinder and screw it in, reconnect the union, reinstall the shoes and tighten the brake pedal.

How to service and repair the wheel cylinder on Mercury Mariner?

In order to service the wheel cylinder, loosen it, and take out the bleeder screw, and screw it tightly (8 Nm) when re-fitting. Change dust boots, pistons and seals with clean brake fluid lubricated seals. Check wear; worn cylinder and fit new one. Use DOT 3 brake fluid and keep it in check not to cause damage.
