Service and repair tasks for the alternator begin with disconnecting the battery. First disable the tensioner on the front end accessory drive belt by turning it counterclockwise then move the belt to a safe position. Next remove the generator B+ terminal nut while setting its protective cover to the side. The opposite installation steps should be followed to finish the work.

Disconnection of the battery represents the first step when servicing or repairing the alternator. The first step involves disassembling the air cleaner assembly through worm clamp loosening along with bolt removal followed by pulling the assembly from its bracket. First disconnect the electrical connector of the mass air flow (MAF) sensor before removing the drive belt that runs over the generator. The generator's rear connection points require removal after detaching the B+ terminal nut and disconnecting its terminal followed by disconnecting S electrical connector and ASI electrical connector. First remove bolts that mount the upper intake plenum to the generator bracket before lifting the generator out of its position. You should reverse the steps of removal to install the part.

A service or repair of the alternator requires you to disconnect the battery first. The front end accessory drive tensioner rotation should follow a counterclockwise direction before storing the drive belt. The service process requires removing the generator B+ terminal nut together with the protective cover. Tighten this nut to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) when reattaching it. The technician should disconnect the generator B+ terminal along with its corresponding two electrical connectors. The generator requires tightening to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) when installed. The engineer must first remove three bolts securing it in place. Before replacing the generator pulley nut secure it tightly to 109 Nm (80 lb-ft). The installation ends when you apply the reverse steps from removal.

The first step to work on a 4.0L SOHC alternator includes disconnecting the battery. The service and repair process starts with rotating the front end accessory drive belt tensioner counter-clockwise before placing the front end accessory drive belt to the side. The protective cover should be placed aside before removing the generator B+ terminal nut. Reverse the steps of removal to perform installation of the 4.0L SOHC alternator.

Disconnect the battery.
