Parking Brake Cable

A proper repair or service of the rear parking brake cable starts by taking away the floor console followed by unwinding the parking brake control adjusting nut. The service requires front parking brake cable disconnection from the equalizer followed by hoisting the vehicle into NEUTRAL position. Mount a proper jackstand beneath the muffler and tailpipe while using it to detach the two isolators connecting the muffler to the vehicle. Twist off the two catalytic converter-to-exhaust flexible pipe nuts before separating the exhaust flexible pipe from the catalytic converter while discarding both components and the gasket. Use a new gasket to secure it by tightening the new nuts to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). Separate the heat shield by uninstalling both the six nuts and two pin-type retainers. Both parking brake cable routing bracket nuts need removal followed by bracket tightening to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) before removing the six parking brake cable routing bracket bolts that should be torqued to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) when reinstalling. The installation completion requires following the reverse order of removal while possibly needing to adjust the parking brake cable.

Unbolt both parking brake cable routing clips before releasing the rear parking brake cables from the calipers and then discard the cables. The procedure ends by following the reverse order of removal while performing necessary adjustments to the parking brake cable.

Tighten them to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft).
