Parking Brake Cable

Service and repair of the rear parking brake cable starts with floor console extraction. Before continuing disconnect the rear parking brake cables from the equalizer while unfastering the parking brake control adjusting nut. Place the vehicle in NEUTRAL position then mount it on a hoist before removing the heat shield by removing its 6 retaining nuts and 2 pin-type retainers. The service requires removal of two parking brake cable routing bracket nuts while installation demands a tight torque of 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.). For reinstallation tighten the 6 parking brake cable routing bracket bolts to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). Complete removal of the cables requires first disconnecting the rear parking brake cables from the calipers through the removal of 2 clips. Reverse the uninstallation procedure while adjusting the parking brake cable according to specifications.

Begin the rear parking brake cable repair by taking away the floor console followed by easing the parking brake control adjusting nut. The first step is to detach the rear parking brake cables from the equalizer and set the vehicle on a hoist using NEUTRAL. Place a suitable jackstand underneath the muffler along with the tailpipe while the two muffler and tailpipe isolators should be removed from the vehicle. Two catalytic converter-to-exhaust flexible pipe nuts need removal along with associated gasket removal before separating exhaust flexible pipe from catalytic converter. New nuts should be tightened to 40 Nm during installation (30 lb-ft). The heating shield can be removed after uninstalling six nuts along with two pin-type retaining elements. Remove both parking brake cable routing bracket nuts first and tighten them to 9 Nm (80 lb-inch) before proceeding to remove six parking brake cable routing bracket bolts that need to be torqued to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) when reinstalling. Scrap both routing bracket clips and release the rear parking brake cables from the calipers before pulling out the cables. When reversing the removal process adjust the parking brake cable according to requirement. The isolators need lubricants without oil or grease components since such substances can damage rubber elements which might cause the exhaust hanger isolator to detach from the exhaust hanger bracket during driving.

Position the vehicle on a hoist with it in NEUTRAL.

Reverse the removal steps and adjust the parking brake cable as necessary.
