    How to Service and Repair a Cam Gear/Sprocket for RH on Ford F-150? Posted by Customer

    Start the camshaft gear/sprocket service and repair work by placing the crankshaft damper spokes at the 12 o'clock mark with the timing mark indentation pointed at 1 o'clock. Remove the RH valve cover. To begin the RH camshaft sprocket service start by loosening its bolt one full turn before disconnecting the RH CMP sensor electricity and removing both components. Check if the No. 1 cylinder camshaft exhaust lobe is currently on the exhaust stroke; if not proceed by rotating the crankshaft clockwise to reach the 12 o'clock position. The technician must first note the locations of three camshaft roller followers before dismantling them to protect the engine from damage. A Valve Spring Compressor should be used to remove followers by keeping valve keepers in place. Set the clock-hand side of the crankshaft damper at the 6 o'clock point with the timing mark indentation resting at the 7 o'clock position. Install the Timing Chain Locking Tool square between the timing chain and engine block while maintaining its placement until the whole assembly process completes. Mark the scribed positions on both the camshaft phaser and sprocket assembly along with the timing chain. Then detach the bolt while removing both components. The procedure requires discarding both the bolt and washer but indicates to duplicate the scribe mark if replacing either part. First position the camshaft phaser and sprocket within the timing chain with aligned scribe marks then install the new camshaft phaser and sprocket bolt finger-tight before taking out the Timing Chain Locking Tool. The correct camshaft position will be verified by rotating the crankshaft a half turn in the counterclockwise direction. The Valve Spring Compressor can be employed to reinstall three camshaft roller followers which had been removed before installing the CMP sensor and bolt that needs tightening to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). Use the CMP electrical connector while proceeding to tighten the new camshaft phaser and sprocket bolt through two stages that start at 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) followed by additional 90 degrees of torque. Attach the RH valve cover as the last step.
