Water Pump

The service of a 2.3L coolant pump begins by hoisting the vehicle in NEUTRAL position and draining its cooling system. The service requires separating the accessory drive belt and coolant pump pulley through removing the three bolts securing each one. The new pulley bolts need to be tightened at a torque value of 20 Nm (177 lb-in). The correct positioning of the coolant pump on the engine block is essential to avoid damage before installing fasteners. After proper seating, remove the three bolts together with the coolant pump and discard the ancient O-ring seal. Before attaching the new coolant pump apply engine coolant on the seal O-ring and fasten the bolts to 10 Nm torque (89 lb-in). Complete the cooling system filling process while performing a bleeding operation.

Tighten it to 20 Nm (15 lb-ft) upon reinstallation.

Remove the lower splash shield.

Take out the three bolts securing the coolant pump pulley and remove the pulley, tightening it to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) upon reinstallation.

Disconnect the auxiliary coolant pump-to-thermostat hose and the heater outlet hose.

Fill and bleed the cooling system.

Drain the cooling system.
