  • Q: How to service and repair the rear auxiliary evaporator outlet A/C hose on 2000 Ford Expedition?
    A: The servicing process of the rear auxiliary evaporator outlet line starts with discharging and recovering refrigerant from the system. Begin by removing the cover of the quarter trim panel before uninstalling the outlet line from the underbody by both removing the nut and the line itself. First remove the grommet retainer of the auxiliary A/C line through bolt removal followed by tire removal. Equipments with air suspension need their lockout switch turned off before raising and supporting the vehicle. Detach the muffler heat shield front nuts and then remove all four retaining nuts from line brackets before taking off the brackets from studs by pulling each bracket off separately to prevent damage to the lines. Unthread the nut securing the 5/8 inch outlet line peanut fitting which is found next to the side rail to disconnect the line. Cut several parts of the 5/8 inch evaporator outlet line and discard the cut sections near the A/C line grommet, near the rear crossmember, forward of the rear wheel opening and between the frame and the muffler heat shield. Install the new lines next to the marked vehicle installation points. Position the frame outlet line over the frame while maintaining the violet tape section between the frame and body structure. Install the outlet line peanut fitting then place its nut loosely before inserting the fitting into the torque retention bracket. Install the outlet line toward the rear of the vehicle while directing the end with violet tape to cover the frame crossmember. Place the outlet line peanut fitting in the correct position then place the nut loosely. The installation process must also include the yellow and orange tape ends which need to pass through the rear wheel opening and the floor correctly. Secure all five peanut fittings before applying the line brackets to their position while installing the nuts properly to protect against the floor pan stud breaking. After reinstalling the muffler heat shield permit the vehicle to lower itself and activate the air suspension switch if present. You must attach the outlet line to the auxiliary evaporator case line before you install the grommet seal and retainer properly in correct position and put back the quarter trim access panel. The last step is evacuating the A/C system followed by recharging it while also reinstalling the spare tire.
