How to Service and Repair the Rear Door Latch Assembly on 2001 Ford E-150 Econoline?

Service or repair operations on the rear door latch require first removing the door trim panel together with the watershield. Before servicing the front door it is necessary to disconnect its remote control latch. The service requires removal of retaining nuts and inside handle and bezel from side hinged or rear doors. The service requires drilling out the power door lock actuator rivet on equipped vehicles. The service requires disconnecting the lock cylinder rod from both the exterior door handle and the lock cylinder lever and from the inside door handle-to-latch rod at the door latch for front and side hinged doors. To work on the rear door start by unscrewing license plate housing screws to later pull out the housing from the door before removing the lock cylinder rod at the cylinder and door handle-to-latch cable at the handle. The door latch retaining bolts must be removed before extracting the door latch remote control screw that exists on side hinged and rear doors. Start the front door replacement by removing the door latch together with all parts including latch remote control cable and lock cylinder rod as well as push-button rod and power door lock actuator as an assembly.
